Narendra Damodardas Modi (Gujarati), born 17th September 1950 is an Indian politician who is the 14th and current Prime Minister of India, in office since May 2014. He was the Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2001 to 2014, and is the Member of Parliament for Varanasi. Modi, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is a Hindu nationalist and member of the right-wing Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)
2. Manmohan Singh – 2004-14
Manmohan Singh (Punjabi), born 26 September 1932) is an Indian economist and politician who served as the Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014. The first Sikh in office, Singh was also the first prime minister since Jawaharlal Nehru to be re-elected after completing a full five-year term.
3. Atal Bihari Vajpayee – 1998-2004
Atal Bihari Vajpayee (born 25 December 1924[) is an Indian politician who was the 10th Prime Minister of India, first for 13 days in 1996 and then from 1998 to 2004. A leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he is the first Prime Minister from outside the Indian National Congress party to serve a full five-year term. At age 92, Vajpayee is currently the oldest living former India Prime Minister.

5. HD Deve Gowda – 1996-97
Haradanahalli Doddegowda Deve Gowda (born 18th May 1933) is an Indian politician who was the Prime Minister of India from June 1996 to April 1997. Previously he was the 14th Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1994 to 1996.
6. AB Vajpayee – 1996

7. PV Narasimha Rao – 1991-96
Pamulaparti Venkata Narasimha Rao (28th June 1921 – 23rd December 2004) was an Indian lawyer and politician who served as the 9th Prime Minister of India, from 1991–1996. His ascendancy to the prime ministership was politically significant in that he was the first holder of this office from a non-Hindi-speaking region, belonging to the southern part of India.
8. Chandra Shekhar– 1990-91
Chandra Shekhar Singh (1st July 1927 – 8th July 2007) was an Indian politician who, for a short period of time, served as the 8th Prime Minister of India, between 10 November 1990 and 21st June.
9. VP Singh – 1989-90
Vishwanath Pratap Singh (25th June 1931 – 27th November 2008), was an Indian politician and government official, the 7th Prime Minister of India from 1989 to 1990. Singh is known for trying to improve the lot of India's lower castes as a Prime Minister.
10. Rajiv Gandhi – 1984-89
Rajiv Ratna Gandhi (20th August 1944 – 21st May 1991) was the 6th Prime Minister of India, serving from 1984 to 1989. He took office after the 1984 assassination of his mother, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, to become the youngest Indian Prime Minister at the age of 40.
11. Indira Gandhi – 1980-84
Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi (19th November 1917 – 31st October 1984) was an Indian politician and central figure of the Indian National Congress party. She was the first and to date the only female Prime Minister of India. Indira Gandhi belonged to the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty and was the daughter of India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. Despite her surname Gandhi, she is not related to the family of Mahatma Gandhi. She served as Prime Minister from 1966 to 1977 and then again from 1980 until her assassination in 1984, making her the second-longest-serving Prime Minister of India after her father.
12. Charan Singh – 1979-80
Chaudhary Charan Singh (23rd December 1902 – 29th May 1987) was the Prime Minister of the Republic of India, serving from 28th July 1979 until 14th January 1980. Historians and people alike frequently refer to him as the 'champion of India's peasants
13. Morarji Desai – 1977-79
Morarji Desai (29th February 1896 – 10th April 1995) was an Indian independence activist and served between 1977 to 1979 as the 4th Prime Minister of India for the government formed by the Janata Party. During his long career in politics, he held many important posts in government such as: Chief Minister of Bombay State, Home Minister, Finance Minister and 2nd Deputy Prime Minister of India.

15. Gulzarilal Nanda – 1966-66
Gulzarilal Nanda (4th July 1898 – 15th January 1998) was an Indian politician and economist who specialized in labour issues. He was the Prime Minister of India for two short periods following the deaths of Jawaharlal Nehru in 1964 and Lal Bahadur Shastri in 1966. Both his terms ended after the ruling Indian National Congress's parliamentary party elected a new prime minister. He was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award, in 1997.
16. Lal Bahadur Shastri – 1964-66
Lal Bahadur Shastri (2nd October 1904 – 11th January 1966) was the 2nd Prime Minister of the Republic of India and a leader of the Indian National Congress party.
He led the country during the Indo-Pakistan War of 1965. His slogan of "Jai Jawan Jai Kisan" ("Hail the soldier, Hail the farmer") became very popular during the war and is remembered even today. The war formally ended with the Tashkent Agreement of 10 January 1966; he died the following day, still in Tashkent, the cause of death was said to be a heart attack but there are various reasons to think that it was a planned murder by the CIA.

Jawaharlal Nehru (14th November 1889 – 27th May 1964) was the first Prime Minister of India and a central figure in Indian politics before and after independence. He emerged as the paramount leader of the Indian independence movement under the tutelage of Mahatma Gandhi and ruled India from its establishment as an independent nation in 1947 until his death in 1964. He is considered to be the architect of the modern Indian nation-state: a sovereign, socialist, secular, and democratic republic. He was also known as Pandit Nehru due to his roots with the Kashmiri Pandit community while many Indian children knew him as Chacha Nehru (Hindi, lit., "Uncle Nehru").
